LHMAC members, the Endurance Contest is just a few weeks away. It promises to be an exciting event for pilots and spectators alike. There will be substantial cash prizes so while you are out at the field this month take the time to sharpen up, gain confidence, and practice for this event, to assure some real competition. *** Tests pilot’s skill in setup and trimming plane for flight. Provides opportunity for even novice fliers by adding landing challenge. CONTEST*: 1. Each contestant will be given a maximum of 2 minutes to gain cruising altitude and speed, and trim model to fly in a circular pattern (left or right per pilots choice). At two minutes or when pilot declares “ready”, the clock will start and he will put down the radio and keep hands off as long as he can “endure” the stress. The clock stops as soon as the pilot touches the radio, or when the plane, in the opinion of the judges panel, is “too close to the field boundaries ”. 2. There will be two designated landing areas, hitting area #1 (at least one wheel on ground and inside the area or on the line on touch down) will add a landing skill bonus of 20% to a pilots time; hitting #2 will add 10% to the pilots time. Landing must be made in a normal steady glide path (judges decision will be final), 3D hovering to drop on the landing area will result in a disqualification for the bonus. A plane that flips or otherwise does not come to rest with wheels on the ground will be designated as crashed, pilot dead, and disqallified. Pilots will be allowed one flyby on landing provided the wheels never touch the ground. 3. Pilots will be ranked by the clock time plus bonus if any! QUALIFICATIONS: Contestants must be qualified for solo flight and fly a gasoline or glow fueled aircraft of .40 size or larger. CASH PRIZES: First $60; Second $40; Third $25; Four through eight $5 Each * Contest Director reserves the right to change the rules in the event of poor flying conditions. |
